Busy this Summer? Our Nia Fitness Gym Doesn't Have Monthly Membership Fees

Summer is a time of freedom, sudden plans, projects, and of course – vacations!

Traditional gyms and many fitness studios see a drop in membership during the summer because most of them require a monthly membership fee. Gym memberships are great because you can work out any time but paying for the monthly membership dues when you'll be out of town for vacation or are too busy at work to work out is frustrating.

At Castle Rock Nia Fitness, a new studio in Castle Rock, we understand how busy people are so we offer fitness classes with a pay-as-you-go system. This means you are only paying for workouts you actually participate in. Punch cards are a great way to try a new exercise program to see if you really enjoy it. They are also great for people with busy schedules.

As summer approaches we have the chance to exercise in different ways – pull weeds for example. Our Nia classes are great because they will complement your summer activities. This morning our Nia teacher had the class focus on our spine and each of the exercises were designed to gently move our spines and awaken the core of our bodies. I felt incredibly refreshed after class.
Nia (pronounced 'knee-ah') is a dynamic exercise program that incorporates elements of yoga, martial arts, and dance. While this seems like an unlikely combination, it is actually a fun way to fully stretch your body and move a purposeful way. You don't have to give up your workouts this summer – just make sure you aren't paying for workouts you aren't using.

What is Ikebana?
Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arranging. It is a three dimensional art form and the philosophy expressing the interrelationship between the self and the outer world.

Sogestsu Ikebana Class

There are many different styles of Japanese flower arranging. Sogetsu is a modern (since the 1920s) and innovative school of Ikebana that encourages imagination, individual creativity, and the idea that anyone can create ikebana anywhere, any time, with anything. Line, open space, focal point and asymmetry are key elements of Sogetsu design. After mastering many basic forms to learn technique and the design principles, Sogetsu Ikebana students progress to free style designs where the only limits are those of imagination.

The 13 Principles of Nia (a 13 part series)

Principle #1 of Nia: The Joy of Movement

From Julia - The Joy of Movement is the heart of Nia. When we honor our bodies and move authentically in our own body's way we experience the Joy of Movement.

For myself, I look forward to Nia because it feels wonderful for my body and it brings joy to my spirit. The class leaves me more energized than when I walk in and can improve my attitude if I come to class stressed. I always leave class in a better state than when I arrived. I guess I'm addicted!

From Allison - Take a kid to the beach and no matter how cold the water is - they jump in! Walk a child through a forest and they'll leap up to see if they can touch the low branches. A child finds joy in moving their body. A child isn't reluctant to move in order to get what they want or to have fun. At some point, many of us lost our spontaneous movement; we forgot the "joy of movement."
The founders of Nia, Carlos and Debbie Rosas recognized this loss and created an exercise routine rooted in childhood bliss and activity. The goal of each workout is to experience joy. They believe that if you are having fun and experiencing joy while working out, you'll stick with it. Moving your way towards greater health and more joy is the first of 13 principles of Nia. It sounds like a great way to start to me.
